According to a tweet on Monday morning, it was revealed that Valencia fired coach Javi Gracia a day after the club slipped to within six points of the relegation zone in La Liga. Valencia, one of La Liga’s biggest teams, is six points from the relegation zone with four games remaining, and there is real doubt about the team’s recent drift, winning three points from their last 18. They play Real Valladolid at Mestalla next, a game that, if lost, could push them into the relegation zone.

Gracia, who took over at the end of last season, was sacked after the team lost 3-2 at home to Barcelona on Sunday, their sixth straight league game without a victory.

With four games remaining, he leaves them 14th in the league table, six points ahead of 18th-placed Huesca.

Voro, a long-serving club employee, has been appointed caretaker coach, the seventh time he has taken temporary charge of the side.

Valencia coach Javi Gracia Fired: Gracia’s Position Was Under Pressure

Gracia is the 11th coach to leave the club in the last nine years. He started after the loss to Barcelona that he “could not be any more concerned” about the team’s situation. His departure was expected after he resigned in October after the club failed to sign new players during the transfer window despite selling several notable players, including captain Dani Parejo and Spain forwards Ferran Torres and Rodrigo Moreno.

It wasn’t the first time Gracia’s status had been called into question during his time at Valencia. He was on the verge of losing his job in January. After a 1-1 draw with Cadiz in the middle of an eight-game losing streak. The club’s boss, Peter Lim, wanted to back him at the time. He but has now decided that the time has come to make a move. Valencia fell 3-2 to Barcelona last night at Mestalla after taking the lead.
