La Liga referees accused by Barcelona star Gerard Pique

Football News

La Liga referees have been accused by Barcelona star Gerard Pique of preferring Real Madrid. The winner of the World Cup added that most of the referees in the Spanish first division are from the capital city and are unconsciously biased towards the record champions in critical moments of a game, despite their professionalism. The Blaugrana defender had also shared in the past his disappointment with refereeing decisions.

‘A former referee said the other day that 85 percent of the referees are from Madrid,’ Gerard Pique said in a recent Post United interview.

‘I respect the professionalism of the referees and I know that they are trying to do their best, but when there is a moment of doubt…’ he added.

Barcelona and Real Madrid have struggled in the league this season as they are 10 points behind the Atletico Madrid leaders. Both sides are level on points and also have an identical disciplinary record, with 36 bookings each received.

During the interview, the defender also talked about Sergio Ramos’ future at Real Madrid. With the contract negotiations he is having, Sergio is an example: when there is a powerful president who takes a decision and wants to follow that path, the players can’t do anything,’ Gerard Pique said.
