Despite finally returning to training, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp ruled Thiago Alcantara out of a return to action on Wednesday night in the Premier League clash with Newcastle.
Thiago has been missing for more than 10 weeks after he suffered a knee injury in a poorly tempered Merseyside derby back in mid-October. He has only played 135 minutes since joining the Reds from Bayern Munich in the summer and fans are clamoring to see him back on the pitch.
Klopp has had to answer questions about the fitness of the Spaniard frequently during his frustrating absence and supporters were at least boosted this week when it was reported that he would return to full training with the rest of the squad.
But it’s too early for Thiago to play on the trip to St James’ Park, and Klopp is cautious.”We are, of course, looking forward to [Thiago coming back], but I don’t know. He’s not likely to travel [to Newcastle], let me say it this way,” Klopp told LiverpoolFC.com.
