Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema has insisted that his side is still in the title race in La Liga.
With a brace in their 4-1 victory away at Alaves, the former French international hit 10 league targets for 2020/21.
The win reduces the gap to four points with Atletico Madrid’s rivals and league leaders, with Diego Simeone facing Valencia tomorrow.
Benzema claims Real Madrid has a good chance of defending its title in the coming months, despite trailing Los Rojiblancos going into the second half of the campaign.
“This is a very good game for us and it will increase our confidence,” he told Marca in a post-match interview.
“We’ve got to keep working as we’ve been because that’s what we have to do after a rough week. After a hard week, we are on the right track and we have to look at ourselves because there is still a lot of football to be played in the league.”
In their first 19 games of the season, Real Madrid racked up 40 points, with Atletico having two games in hand over them after the victory at Alaves.
