Federico Bernardeschi came off the bench to help Juventus win the game, assisting Alvaro Morata and Federico Chiesa before Cristiano Ronaldo scored his third goal on the counter against Spezia.
Federico Chiesa has just scored after being flagged for a long time for being offside. Merih Demiral deflected Marchizza’s attempt across the goal line after Ivan Provedel charged off his line to get just enough on the ball before Dejan Kulusevski.
With Chiesa’s volley charged down at the back post and Terzi making a critical interception on a Ronaldo header, there was some Spezia pressure, but there were also opportunities for Juve.
After Kulusevski paused on a Ronaldo via ball, Martin Erlic was able to charge down the finish. Ronaldo’s right-footed angled drive beat Provedel and bounced off the inside of the far post on 41 minutes, giving Juventus a genuinely dangerous opportunity.
Weston McKennie was unable to take advantage of a poor Luca Vignali back-pass after the restart, as Erlic came back to prevent Chiesa from tapping into an empty net. When the ball bounced off him in front of an open net, Provedel had just enough on a Kulusevski cross to frighten Ronaldo.
A game-changing double substitution was made by Andrea Pirlo. Alvaro Morata got in front of Erlic and tapped in from a couple of yards after Federico Bernardeschi burst down the right flank and sent across to the near post. Bernardeschi was initially ruled offside, but the VAR reported that he was onside.
Bernardeschi was also involved in the second goal when he burst down the left flank and rolled the ball across for Chiesa, whose first attempt was brilliantly saved by Provedel from eight yards, but he scored on the rebound.
Provedel had to save Ronaldo’s free-kick after it went over the wall, while Marchizza’s shot was deflected for a Spezia corner. In the final 20 minutes, as Juve attempted to defend a two-goal lead, the visitors poured forward, causing them to be very successful on the counter-attack.
That’s exactly what happened in the final minute when Rodrigo Bentancur reclaimed possession and sent Ronaldo clear to score past Provedel.
VAR was used late in the game to grant a penalty to Spezia for Merih Demiral’s challenge on Emmanuel Gyasi. Andrij Galabinov stepped up, but Wojciech Szczesny parried his spot-kick to keep the clean sheet intact.
