The new leaks from Goal have uncovered yet more disturbing information about the questionable activities of former Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu and his board of directors. An almost long list of controversies by Josep Maria Bartomeu during his reign of terror seems to have gotten worse during a club audit.
Barcelona’s financial condition is no longer a mystery. The team’s former board’s egregious financial mismanagement has placed the club in debt. To the tune of more than one billion euros. To make matters worse, it now seems that they were even stealing money from the club without accounting for it.
Joan Laporta and his board have uncovered several contracts targeted at different costs within Barcelona. They are now investigating to assess the club’s financial issues. On the other side, the money is nowhere to be seen.
Hundreds of contracts for social or legal services seem to be worth less than 200,000 euros. According to the Espai Barça scheme, which covers the current Camp Nou arena, the Palau Blaugrana, and the Johan Cruyff stadium.
Both of these agreements are worth between 196 and 199 thousand euros. It is just under the minimum number of agreements that must be submitted to the socios. Under Laporta’s administration, both the social and legal services departments have shifted personnel. And both have said that they are “not surprised” by the findings.
