Jose Mourinho, the new manager of Roma, is said to want Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea to join him there during the summer transfer window.
Mourinho has already been named the club’s next head coach for the 2021-22 season, and the Portuguese is set to make significant changes to the roster in the coming months.
The 58-year-old is reportedly determined to sign De Gea, who may be able to exit the 20-time English champions this summer, according to TodoFichajes.
On Thursday evening, the Spain international was in goal for Man United versus Roma. As they advanced to the Europa League final with an 8-5 aggregate victory.
However, De Gea has lost his starting spot to Dean Henderson. And the Red Devils are said to be vulnerable to the 30-year-old leaving.
According to the source, an offer of about €25 million may be enough to sign the former Atletico Madrid youngster. As Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side is looking to offload his high wages.
Between 2016 and 2018, De Gea played for Mourinho at Old Trafford.
David de Gea future
Following a series of high-profile mistakes, Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea’s career has been called into question. This started in recent seasons.
In September 2019, the Spaniard agreed to a new deal that will hold him at Old Trafford until 2023.
However, his performance since signing the contract, as well as Dean Henderson’s performance during his loan spell at Sheffield United and since returning to the club, has prompted talk that Henderson might replace De Gea as Man United’s first-choice goalkeeper.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, United’s manager, has declined to say one of the two players is his number one.
