Jordan Henderson revealed that Jadon Sancho and Jude Bellingham can give extra insight on the Bundesliga players in the German squad. England takes on Germany in a round of 16 tie at Euro 2020 at Wembley. They have not beaten their arch-rivals in the knockout stages of a major tournament since 1966. England went on to lift the World Cup that year under captain Bobby Moore. Sancho and Bellingham ply their trade in the Bundesliga with Borussia Dortmund. A number of Dortmund players are present in the German lineup.
“They will do, a lot of us know a lot of them anyway because they have top-class players across the pitch.” Jordan Henderson said when asked about the input that Jadon Sancho and Jude Bellingham can provide. “We will know them well, we’ll watch their games in Euros. Jadon and Jude know them very well, they are both big players for us and I am sure they will be telling the lads one or two other things about them.”
Henderson is returning from an injury layoff and said he was happy to get 45 minutes under his belt against the Czech Republic. he also revealed that there would be no change in the training schedule for the knockouts as compared to the group stage. penalties will now come into play and Henderson does not seem to bother even with England’s poor track record from the spot in the past.
“We always practice penalties so nothing really changes again. That’s always the case in any tournament,” he said. “It’s a special game, it’s always a special game. In recent years you look at the one with the ball over the line which wasn’t given, that was probably the standout game.”
