Joe Willock: Steve Bruce

Newcastle United manager Steve Bruce revealed that he is eager to bring Joe Willock back but the ball is in Arsenal’s court. He believes that the player has to decide on his future too. Newcastle have their hopes up after his teammate Emile Smith Rowe signed a new long-term contract at the club. The midfielder scored eight goals in 14 appearances for the Magpies. He set a record for the youngest player to score in seven games in succession.

“You have to ask Arsenal, it’s their decision and it’s the player’s decision.” Steve Bruce said when asked about Joe Willock. “Of course we want him back, he did great with us and gives us another dimension in midfield that we haven’t got. We’ll keep bashing away at it.”

Newcastle beat Doncaster 3-2 in a pre-season friendly. The game marked the first time that Callum Wilson has scored in front of the Newcastle fans. Around 3,500 Newcastle fans experienced the win at the Keepmoat Stadium. It also marked the first time that Wilson wore the No 9 shirt vacated by Joelinton.

“It’s nice to get off the mark in pre-season, get that feeling in front of goal again and get momentum going into the season,” Callum Wilson said. “It’s great to have the shirt but I try not to think about it too much because it could affect your game. Ultimately you’re playing for the badge on the front and trying to get goals for the team.”
