Jermain Defoe: ‘If Kane wants to win trophies, he needs to leave Tottenham’

Jermain Defoe, a former Tottenham forward, has spoken out about striker Harry Kane’s situation at the London club.

“If you had asked me a few years ago about his prospects, I would have said I should stay at Tottenham. Given what he has done here, Defoe is a legend,” Defoe told TalkSport.

“However, after leaving and going to Rangers, I’ve learned the attitude, played for another top club, and understood the importance of playing for him, winning every match, expectations, and demands. You have to win and win trophies if you want to be nice. When you finally do that, the emotions you get are just amazing. I wish I could go back in time and relive the early days of my career.”

“If Harry Kane likes it, if he wants to win awards, I agree he should resign. That is not something I believe he would be able to do easily. Maybe he sees it differently and wishes to become the club’s all-time leading scorer and see where it takes him. He may expect to win a few medals, but if he is greedy for titles, he must go.”

Defoe, 38, won his first cup for Rangers, capturing the Scottish Championship.
