Jamie Carragher has lambasted Tottenham for not having enough courage against Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final on Sunday. City completely dominated Tottenham in every department. Tottenham’s 13-year wait for a title continues after their toothless performance in the Final.

Tottenham’s lackluster performance was evident from their 0.06 expected goals in the final. The only team this season to have a worse expected goals tally was West Brom when they lost to Aston Villa late last year. Carragher believes the blame should be thrown at the Spurs players and not their manager. Ryan Mason was taking charge of only his second game as Tottenham manager.

“This has nothing to do with Ryan Mason at all,” Jamie Carragher said describing Tottenham’s performance in the final. “This group of players at Spurs are a group who really lack courage, and basically bottled it in the final. Forget about losing the final, you don’t expect them to win against Manchester City, but it was how they went about it.”

“A lot of people say, ‘typical Spurs, they’re Spursy, they’re weak’. I fight against that because it’s lazy punditry. I’ve seen some brilliant Spurs teams; what I saw under Mauricio Pochettino was outstanding, what I saw under Harry Redknapp for two years was outstanding.” he added.

According to the statistics, the Spurs have averaged just 11.2 percent of their passes being long. In the final against City, 17.2 percent of their passes were long. Those numbers are comparable to Burnley who average 18.9 percent in the league this season. Carragher likened the Spurs performance in the final to a team fighting a relegation dog fight.
