‘I’ve seen Henderson save them!’ – Solskjaer

Football News

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer shared his dissatisfaction with Manchester United’s inability to stop Milan from scoring a last-gasp equalizer in the Europa League, acknowledging that he has seen Dean Henderson save similar efforts in the past.

United drew 1-1 at Old Trafford in the first leg of their round-of-16 tie on Thursday night, with Simon Kjaer’s late header canceling out Amad Diallo’s opener.

Solskjaer was enraged to see his team losing their lead in the final minutes of the game, thinking that his goalkeeper and defenders should have done more to hold the Serie A champions at bay.

After the game, the Norwegian head coach told BT Sport: “Very disappointed to concede with one of the last ball kicks or head kicks.

“Of course, this makes it more difficult, but it was always going to come down to the second game.

“I’ve seen him [Henderson] save them, but we’re losing the structure. We fell too deep and were blocked, allowing them to put on the header.

“With the men, we had on hand, we should have attacked the ball.

“With possession, we were a little too late. That is the type of learning we must instill in ourselves, and it is something we must demonstrate every week.

“We’re up against some tough competition.” A draw is most likely a fair result.”

Milan will now return to San Siro for the second leg, knowing that a 0-0 draw will be enough to advance them to the Europa League quarter-finals after scoring the vital away goal in Manchester.
