Italy beat Spain in a penalty shootout after the match finished 1-1 after extra time. The Spain player ratings are below
Unai Simon – 6
Simon made one good save from the Emerson shot but did not move for Chiesa’s curler. He did save a penalty in the shootout.
Cesar Azpilicueta – 6
The lack of pace from the experienced right-back was exposed quite a lot. He offered width to the Spanish play when they had possession.
Eric Garcia – 5
Garcia could not close down Chiesa fast enough for the goal and allowed him to shoot again but Simon did enough to keep it out.
Aymeric Laporte – 7
He was the best Spanish defender by a mile. Saw a lot of the ball because of the extent of Spanish possession.
Jordi Alba – 6
Alba has had a good tournament but was underwhelming in the game providing hardly any attacking output.
Koke – 8
The Spanish midfield bossed the game but was let down by the forward line. His cross to Oyarzabal should have been converted by the forward.
Sergio Busquets – 8
Busquets controlled the pace of the game and almost scored in the second half. Picked up a yellow for his troubles.
Pedri – 8
His range of passing was a sight to behold the entire game. His future in the Spanish national team looks bright.
Ferran Torres – 5
Torres could not get involved in the game and hardly caused the Italian defence any trouble. Was substituted on the hour mark.
Dani Olmo – 8
Olmo was the standout in his false nine position. His final touch let him down but always looked like a threat.
Mikel Oyarzabal – 4
Oyarzabal was a surprise inclusion in the starting lineup replacing Alvaro Morata. should have at least worked the keeper after two brilliant passes from Koke and Pedri. He earned the least of the Spain player ratings.
