Italy beat Spain in a penalty shootout after the match finished 1-1 after extra time. The Italy player ratings are below
Gianluigi Donnarumma – 7
Donnarumma put on another brilliant performance against Spain after producing a stunning display against Belgium. Saved the decisive penalty in the shootout.
Giovanni Di Lorenzo – 8
Another solid performance from the Italian right back. Kept the Spanish quiet on his side of the pitch throughout the game.
Leonardo Bonucci – 7
Another outstanding performance from the experienced center-back. He was the extra man to nullify any of the Spanish attacks.
Giorgio Chiellini – 7
Chiellini put up an outstanding performance despite the fact he was playing against a false nine for much of the game. Dani Olmo dragged him out of position a few times but the captain stepped up his game.
Emerson – 6
Emerson was called in to fill in for the injured Leonardo Spinazzola. He could not penetrate as much as his predecessor but was strong defensively.
Nicolo Barella – 7
After scoring the crucial opener in the quarterfinals, Barella once again looked like getting his name on the scoresheet with just the post preventing him from doing so.
Jorginho – 7
Jorginho is used to controlling the pace of the game but could not do so given the Spanish possession. He spent most of the time defending but had the last laugh after scoring the winning penalty.
Marco Verratti – 6
Verratti is well known for his passing range but like Jorginho was forced to defend for much of the game. He struggled to get on the ball as much as he would have liked.
Ciro Immobile – 6
The striker ran his socks off for the team, helping his team defend from the front. He did not have many chances.
Lorenzo Insigne – 6
Like most of the Italian forwards, he just could not get into the game. He was starved of the ball given the Spanish possession.
Federico Chiesa – 8
Chiesa was undoubtedly the best Italy player ratings on the field. He scored the opener against the run of play with a neat finish.
