Ilkay Gundogan wants to be a manager after he retires

Football News

Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan announced his intention to become a manager after he retires, citing the impact of Pep Guardiola, Jurgen Klopp, and Thomas Tuchel on his playing career and hoping to take what he learned from them into coaching.

Gundogan enjoys an extraordinary spell of form at City, hitting the net 11 times in his last appearance in the 12 Premier League to get the club firmly on track for a third title in four years. But he always has one eye on the future after turning 30 last year, too.

“Some time ago, if I were to take a trainer’s license one day, I asked around for some information on how the procedure would work,” the German international told Target.

“It is more than just a feeling in that sense. But then, as I would like to orient myself, my thoughts are not that far away. The truth is, with Pep, Klopp, and Tuchel, I’ve had the best club football coaches so far. You learn a lot and think about how this experience can be passed on after your service.”
