Cristiano Ronaldo helped Portugal secure a comfortable 3-0 win over Hungary in their opening match of Euro 2020. Ronaldo broke the European Championships record scoring his 10th and 11th goals. Portugal dominated the first half against Hungary in front of a 60,000 capacity Puskas arena. Ronaldo, Diogo Jota, and Bernardo Silva all squandered good chances before halftime.
Hungary showed a lot of promise after the break with signs of an upset on the cards. Substitute Szabolcs Schon thought he put Hungary into the lead before the goal was chalked off by VAR. Portugal took full advantage of the reprieve when Raphael Guerreiro’s strike was heavily deflected. The deflection gave keeper Peter Gulacsi no chance.

Gary Neville on Cristiano Ronaldo
“It’s an obscene record. 106 goals for his country is absolutely ridiculous. He continues to beat individual record after individual record.” Neville said. “He wants to be the best player in the world and seen as one of the greatest of all-time in terms of scoring more goals than anyone and he’ll go and do it.”
“His physical shape is absolutely incredible. He’s adapted from being someone who sprinted from the left-wing or the right-wing,” he added. “Now he’s not doing as much running in games and he’s not as explosive but he’s just basically a poacher. You wouldn’t traditionally think of him as a center-forward but he is now a striker and a brilliant goalscorer.”
