Barcelona star Antoine Griezmann said that after being upstaged in the Supercopa de Espana final by Athletic Club, the La Liga giants are “screwed, angry, upset”
For the first time in his Barca career, Lionel Messi was sent off as the Catalan club lost 3-2 to Athletic following extra time in Seville on Sunday.
Messi played a pass at the end of extra time and took a swing at Asier Villalibre as the Athletic forward ran across his lane, showing the anger Barca felt twice in regulation after losing the lead.
Griezmann scored twice, including the 40th-minute opener, but on both occasions, at Estadio de La Cartuja his goals were canceled out.
In the 42nd minute before replacement team-mate Asier Villalibre forced extra time at the death, Athletic’s Oscar de Marcos equalized after Griezmann had regained Barca’s lead with 13 minutes left.
In the third minute of extra time, Inaki Williams then scored a sublime goal to win Athletic’s third Supercopa crown and first since 2015, with Messi’s red card for lashing out at Villalibre contributing to the woes of Barca in the dying moments.
“How do you think we are?” Griezmann responded when asked how Barca felt after the game.
“We’re fucked, furious, disappointed. These are all the bad feelings you have when you lose a final.
“The sportsman pushed very well. Until the last minute, they gave everything, and then, what happened, happened. We made errors in our plan and throughout the week we would have to focus on it.
“We didn’t defend well, we didn’t communicate. When the ball comes out someone needs to shout.”
France star Griezmann has scored five goals in both club and country competitions in his past four finals.
