Lorenzo Insigne missed a penalty in Napoli’s Supercoppa Italiana loss to Juventus, but his coach would not pin the defeat on him.

Gennaro Gattuso urged Lorenzo Insigne not to blame himself for the loss of Napoli’s Supercoppa Italiana to Juventus after missing a chance from the penalty spot to equalize.

Insigne sent the wrong way to Wojciech Szczesny but shot woefully wide the left-hand post.

Gattuso refused to blame Insigne, but the miss of the forward saw him spurn the chance to score his 100th Napoli goal.

“I have to thank my players, as they did what we needed to. They were a little timid, especially in the first half, but reacted to the goal,” Gattuso told RAI Sport.

“These things can happen, I applaud them for their efforts. Maybe we should have done anything better, but we know it’s hard for these circumstances.

You may have a little bad luck in such a crucial game and that involves a missed penalty, but it was amazing to save Lozano in the 94th minute.
“We win and lose with everyone in the team, Lorenzo mustn’t think we lost because of him, as that’s just not true.”
