Gary Neville Jordan Pickford

Gary Neville has revealed that Jordan Pickford has been England’s player in the tournament so far. Pickford has been in sublime form between the posts. He has not conceded a goal yet this Euros keeping four clean sheets in the process. English fans will be hoping Pickford can keep this form up for the rest of Euro 2020.

England beat 2014 world cup winners Germany in front of 45,000 fans. The attendance was the highest since the pandemic hit early last year. Some of his critics have backtracked because of his performances at Euro 2020. Gary Neville has been critical of Pickford in the past but said he has been the best player so far.

“My MOM last night was Jordan Pickford and I also think he’s been England’s player of the tournament so far.” Gary Neville tweeted referring to Jordan Pickford. “I’ve been critical of him with Everton but with England, he’s a different player!”

Pickford has had his fair share of doubters in the past and the England stopper addressed them earlier this year. He even name-dropped Gary Neville.

“It’s funny because everyone raves about you when you are with England, but when you go back to your club everyone wants to slate you,” Pickford said. “It does p*** you off. The press, the punters, everybody – look at Gary Neville – they just want to come for England players. Everyone gets stick.”

“That’s part of being an England player. You have got to live with it, you have got to learn,” he added. “You just keep it away from your head as the only person who can sort things out is yourself as an individual, on the pitch, and in training. Every England player gets a stick. Some get a lot more praise than others. It is what it is. Look at Joe Hart when he was No 1, he got pelters every week.”
