Harry Wilson scored a spectacular goal on his fulham debut as Middlesbrough secured a 1-1 draw late on. The match took some time to spring into life with a moment of magic from Wilson. The hosts had a number of chances to put the game to bed but failed to take any of their chances. They were made to pay late on with the visitors snatching a draw a few minutes prior to the final whistle.
Fulham are the favorites to secure promotion back to the Premier League. If they would like to do so they will need to convert their chances. Their best chance came when Alexandr Mitrovic sent in a pinpoint cross with Neeskens Kebano heading goalwards. He could only head the ball straight into the hands of the goalkeeper. Mitrovic too managed to get a tough header from a cross by Kenny Tete only for the ball to sail wide.
Fulham manager Marco Silva: “In the end, it is a frustration for us because we didn’t achieve what we wanted and what we deserved.” he added after his Fulham side drew with Middlesbrough. ”At this level, you know when you’re winning 1-0 and you have control of the game, we have to be more clinical to score the second and be more comfortable in the game.”
Middlesbrough manager Neil Warnock: “If there had been another five minutes, I think we would have won it. They [Fulham] are a superb squad and I felt like we had to hang in there and that’s what we did.” he added. “I thought the changes were positive and we went at them then. Tav [Tavernier] is disappointed that he hasn’t scored two and that’s how he should feel. It’s a good start, the fans have been brilliant and that’s what we’ve been missing.”
