Tottenham reached the fourth round of the Carabao Cup after they were involved in one of the tight football scores in the Carabao Cup. After leading by two goals they took their gas off the pedal and were made to pay by a strong Wolves side. Harry Kane and Tanguy Ndombele put the visitors ahead in the first half but Leander Dendoncker reduced the deficit just before half-time. Daniel Podence put the host’s level with less than 10 minutes on the clock to force extra time. Neither team could break the deadlock and the game went to penalties. Ruben Neves, Dendoncker, and Conor Coady missed their spot-kicks.
Tottenham manager Nuno Espirito Santo: “Different, different, different moments of the game but honestly I think we allowed Wolves to get back in the game. In the first half, we started really well. We were really good and we dominated, we pressed, we recovered balls and we created so many chances to put the game to bed.” he added, “I’m disappointed with the set-piece. We cannot allow it because the momentum changes, the atmosphere changes, and in the second half it wasn’t as we wanted which like you say the first half was really good.”
“Then the penalties I think is honestly is a task of possibility. The boys prepared well yesterday and we spent a lot of time preparing because it’s not luck. It’s having a goalkeeper who has the right info and it’s having the players making their responsibility and the tasks that they have to do it. I think I said a lot about the game today.”
