Football Scores

Emil Riis scored a brace in the first half to help Preston secure one of the comfortable football scores of the weekend in the Championship. Luton was the team in form coming into the game after going five matches unbeaten. The opening stages were cagey with no clear-cut chances for either side. Preston was the first to draw blood with Riis scoring a thunderbolt after 27 minutes. He should have doubled the advantage soon after but his shot was deflected wide. He was not left to rue his missed chance when he dispatched a penalty in first-half stoppage time.

Managers Reaction

Preston’s Frankie McAvoy: “I thought once we started to pass it and move it you could see the confidence becoming a bit better. We knew it would be a tough game, Luton makes it really hard for anyone they play against, and goals change games.” he added. “I thought Emil’s strike was magnificent and once you get the goal then you can settle the nerves a bit. It was great to get the penalty before half-time.”

Luton’s Nathan Jones: “We were poor today. That is the poorest we’ve been this season when we’ve been excellent. Let’s give Preston credit, they were better than us today in all the basics. In terms of work rate, winning battles and in everything, they were better than us.” he added. “Rather fortuitously they scored because it was more of a cross than anything and we could have cleared it but, overall, they were better than us.”
