Poland ended the perfect run of England in World Cup qualifying with one of the surprising football scores of the international break. Damian Szymanski scored a late equalizer to earn Poland a 1-1 draw against the Euro 2020 finalists. Harry Kane scored in the 72nd minute with a long-range effort. Robert Lewandowski then put the perfect cross on the head of Szymanski at the back post.
England struggled to trouble the Poles in the first half as they could not cope with the host’s physicality. Harry Maguire hit the post in the second half when England looked much better. Kane then scored with a swerving effort. The goal marked the 15th consecutive major tournament qualifier where the Tottenham striker has scored in. He moved to fifth in the goal-scoring charts with 41 goals in 64 appearances.

England boss Gareth Southgate: “Overall, we’re pretty pleased. In the opening 15-20 minutes it was difficult to get control of the game. We’re away from home against a proud country that has got some good players. As the half wore on I thought we started to get a little more control without ever looking like creating a clear-cut chance.” he added. “But then second half I thought we controlled the game. A fabulous goal, a fantastic strike. Again we probably didn’t create many clear-cut chances, we didn’t get as many men in the box as we’d have liked at times and there were a couple of sloppy moments at the end where we could have conceded a goal, and then we did concede a goal.”
