Aleksander Mitrovic and Fabio Carvalho scored as Fulham earned a crucial 2-1 away victory in the Championship. Both the scorers scored in the first eight minutes of the game to give the recently relegated side a win. Although the football scores seemed closer it was thanks to Benik Afobe scoring for minutes from the end. Fulham held on for the last few minutes with ease.
The atmosphere at the stadium was electric with both sets of fans finding their voice from the first whistle. The three attackers behind Mitrovic troubled the Millwall defence all night long. Carvalho set up Mitrovic for the opener. Neeskens Kebano then put Carvalho through on goal to help the visitors doubled their lead.
Millwall’s Gary Rowett: “We were beaten by a far better side.” he added. ”They gave us a bit of a lesson – they outran us, outpassed us and showed a little bit more drive and desire. The first two goals are little glimmers of space and the way they exploited it was incredible. Look, they are a good side – as good aside, on that performance, as I’ve seen. I hoped Huddersfield [Fulham won 5-1] was a little bit of a blip but I think they showed tonight that they are the best side in the division.”
Fulham’s Marco Silva: “We dominated all the game, we didn’t give them chances in our box and created enough chances to score a third, a fourth or a fifth.” he added. “You know it will be very difficult to play Millwall with this crowd and how they played but we asked them to show our quality, character and quality – and congratulations to our players.”
