Gareth Bale hit the post late in the game as Wales and Estonia played out one of the drab 0-0 football results of World Cup qualifying. The two points dropped will be a huge blow to Wales hopes of qualifying for the World Cup. They could not create much against a side 100 places below them in the rankings. They now find themselves six points behind Belgium with a game in hand.

Wales had three good chances to win the game. The first came in the first minute of the game when Harry Wilson shot wide with only the goalkeeper to beat. Tyler Roberts was then put through on goal but had his effort saved by Karl Hein. Estonia hit the crossbar just before the halftime whistle after they had scored first in their last three qualifying matches.

Match Reaction

“It’s pure frustration. We knew what they were going to do, we started the game really brightly. We’ve got to score a minute in, and if we do it’s a different game.” Wales manager Rob Page said. “When you’re on top, it’s important to score goals. We weren’t quite clinical enough. In the past we’ve won games late on, had the rub of the green and it has dropped for us but today it just did not. It feels like a defeat playing against a team bottom of the table. We’ve got to build on it, be more clinical, and get a different result.”
