Everton News | Jamie Carragher sends Rafa Benitez message to Everton

Carragher spent the length of Benitez’s six-year tenure at Anfield, helping the Spaniard win the Champions League in 2005.

While the two Merseyside rivals have no love lost, the ex-England defender feels his old coach would be a great match at Goodison Park.

In the Telegraph, Carragher stated, “As Carlo Ancelotti returns to Real Madrid, Everton owner Farhad Moshiri will be wondering when he will next get the chance to employ a former Real Madrid manager and Champions League champion with Premier League experience.”

“How about right now? Who among the candidates immediately associated with Everton following the Ancelotti news is better qualified than my former Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez?

“Rafa is accessible, settled in the region, and I am confident he is ready if Moshiri is willing to explore one of Merseyside football’s most surprising managerial decisions.

“At the absolute least, when Moshiri embarks on yet another managerial search, Benitez should be considered. For the second time, the owner must be certain of the football path he wants to go before deciding on the best candidate.

“With Ancelotti, Everton went for a tried-and-true, experienced manager with a great name. If Moshiri still wants it, Benitez is the obvious choice.”

Ancelotti resigned from Everton on Tuesday after a little over 18 months in command to take over at Real Madrid for a second time.

After taking over in December 2019 with the Toffees in 18th position in the Premier League, the Italian guided them to 12th place after his first season and 10th position after the previous campaign, which ended in May.

Despite that progress, there was a sense that Everton should have set greater goals after leading the table after six games and spending most of the season in the top six.

Benitez, on the other hand, has been unemployed since January after leaving China’s Dalian Professional due to personal circumstances.
