Roberto Martinez revealed that the fitness of Kevin de Bruyne and Eden Hazard will be a last-minute decision for their quarterfinal clash with Italy at Euro 2020. Kevin de Bruyne was substituted three minutes into the second half of their Round of 16 win against Portugal. He was tackled from behind by Palhinha during a counter-attack. Roberto Martinez revealed after the game at Euro 2020 that the midfielder had suffered bruising on his ligament. Eden Hazard pulled up three minutes from the end of the same game clutching his hamstring.
“We all know we are fighting against time,” Martinez said. “We are going to wait until the last minute to make that decision. We’ll see tomorrow if they can be involved or not. Unfortunately, at the moment we cannot make a decision.”
”De Bruyne missed Belgium’s opening group game against Russia, a 3-0 win, due to a facial injury. He returned to score and provide an assist in the 2-1 victory against Denmark before setting up Romelu Lukaku’s goal in the 2-0 triumph over Finland,” he added. ”Hazard has featured in every game at the tournament so far and appears to have improved his form following a season at Real Madrid where he made just 14 La Liga appearances and suffered multiple injury setbacks.”
The other hazard, Eden’s brother Thorgan Hazard scored the winner against Belgium to book their place in the quarterfinals. they now face Italy who is on a 31 match unbeaten run and has had a perfect run at Euro 2020 so far.
