Roberto Martinez has revealed that Kevin de Bruyne and Eden Hazard are unlikely to be fit for their quarter-final against Italy at Euro 2020. Belgium is the best team in the world and one of the favorites for the tournament. He maintained that the injuries sustained were not too serious and they are not ruled out of the tournament yet. Kevin de Bruyne was forced off just three minutes after halftime when he was brought down by Joao Palhinha. Eden Hazard pulled up clutching his hamstring just three minutes before the end of the game.
“The initial information that we have from medical staff is positive for both, they will remain with the squad and they have no structural damage,” Roberto Martinez provided an update on the fitness of Kevin de Bruyne and Eden Hazard before their quarter-final at Euro 2020. “But we are running up against time and it is very difficult to see them fully fit. So, we have to take it day by day to try and get them fit. We were all a bit concerned before we got the news from the scans and it was a relief to all that we can now work on trying to get them fit again.”
Both the superstars have seen reduced minutes at the championships so far. De Bruyne missed the opening game due to a facial injury. He came on as a substitute against Denmark scoring a goal while providing an assist in a 2-1 victory. He then started against Finland providing the assist for Romelu Lukaku’s winner. Hazard has played in every game in the tournament thus far. He came off the bench in the first two games while starting the last two games.
