After getting knocked out in the 2018 World Cup as the defending champions, Germany is looking to re-establish themselves in Euro 2020. This will also be the last major international tournament for long-time coach Joachim Low. The squad is packed with world-class talent all over the pitch.
Gaolkeeper: Manuel Neuer
A number of people wrote off Manuel Neuer after the 2018 World Cup. He has once again re-established himself as one of the best keepers in the world. Neuer has kept a mind-boggling 24 clean sheets since the start of last season. As one of the most experienced players in the squad, Manuel Neuer will be key to the success of this Germany side in Euro 2020.
Defender: Joshua Kimmich
Joshua Kimmich was the heir to Phillip Lahm’s throne at full-back. Much like his predecessor, he has moved into midfield. Kimmich has become one of the best Number 6’s in the world with his defensive work rate and range of passing.
Midfielder: Serge Gnabry
Serge Gnabry has turned his career form with some spectacular outings for Bayern Munich the last couple of seasons. His direct approach means that he will always contribute in front of goal. Gnabry has 15 goals in his 20 caps for Germany so far.
Forward: Timo Werner
Which Timo Werner will turn up to the European Championships is one of the biggest questions Germany faces heading into this summer. After scoring 95 goals in 159 appearances for RB Leipzig, his move to Chelsea last summer felt like the natural progression for his career but, thus far, it hasn’t worked out in London with the 25-year-old managing just 12 goals in 50 games.
