The current world champions France will be looking to live up to the ‘super favorites tag’ given to them by Arsene Wenger at Euro 2020. They have been drawn into the Group of Death featuring Germany, Netherlands, and Hungary. France will be looking for revenge against Portugal for their final loss in Euro 2016.
Goalkeeper: Hugo Lloris
Many had touted Alphonse Areola to take over from the veteran but Areola has not been able to displace Lloris especially after his error in the World Cup final, the biggest stage of them all. Thankfully, France was up 4-0 at the time and the goal conceded ended up being academic.
Defense: Raphael Varane
Raphael Varane is one of the best defenders in the world when he has an experienced defender beside him. He is less reliable when becoming the one to call the shots. He will hope that Presnel Kimpembe can do the job for France at Euro 2020.
Midfield: Paul Pogba
France’s midfield superstar has endured a season riddled with injuries in the Premier League. As shown in the last World Cup, Pogba pulls the strings in midfield. He showed that he can be a leader as well as someone who can spray passes to any corner of the field.
Attack: Kylian Mbappé
With apologies to Antoine Griezmann, who was arguably France’s most decisive player across their entire World Cup campaign and run to the Euro 2016 final, this can be none other than Kylian Mbappé. Of course, Griezmann’s poor form for Barcelona doesn’t help but Mbappé is an honest-to-goodness phenom averaging more than one goal involvement per 90 minutes.
Hugo Lloris; Lucas Hernandez, Presnel Kimpembe, Raphael Varane, Benjamin Pavard, Adrien Rabiot, N’Golo Kante, Paul Pogba, Antoine Griezmann; Kilian Mbappe, Oliver Giroud.
