Football News

Euro 2020 Finland

Finland is making their major tournament debut at Euro 2020. They finished second behind Italy in their group, four and five points clear of Greece and Bosnia and Herzegovina respectively. This is Finland’s best side since the likes of Mikael Forssell and Jari Litmanen.

Goalkeeper: Lukas Hradecky

Lucas Hradecky is undoubtedly the Number 1 goalkeeper in Finland. He plays in the Bundesliga with Bayer Leverkusen. He is one of the best shot-stoppers in the Bundesliga as well as with the ball at his feet. As Finland is the underdogs of their Euro 2020 group, Hradecky is bound to get plenty of opportunities to display his skills between the posts.

Defender: Joona Toivio

Joona Tovio heads into Euro 2020 as the most capped Finnish player behind captain Tim Sparv and Teemu Pukki. Toivio is known for his aerial prowess and threat from set-pieces. His positional play makes it easy for him to make timely interceptions.

Midfielder: Robin Lod

Robin Lod was spectacular in the MLS this season with Minnesota United. He registered 10 goals and four assists across all competitions for the American side. Lod is known for his first touch which helps him hold up the ball in tight spaces. His work ethic and eye for a goal will be two important qualities for Finland this summer.

Forward: Teemu Pukki

The jewel in the crown of Finnish football right now is undoubtedly Teemu Pukki. The 31-year-old performed heroics during the qualification campaign, scoring a whopping 10 goals, at least six more than any other player in Group J. Critics will point to the fact that three of those goals were penalties, but even then, seven of them were not.

Predicted line-up

Lukas Hradecky; Jere Uronen Paulus Arajuuri, Joona Toivio, Jukka Raitala; Robert Taylor, Glen Kamara, Tim Sparv, Robin Lod; Teemu Pukki, Joel Pohjanpalo
