Eric Garcia’s future at Manchester City has been up in the air for months, but sources suggest he has reached a verbal agreement to join Barcelona in the summer.

Barcelona has been behind him since he first played for City, and they may be trying to make amends for letting him go when he was a young player. Barca now needs him because their protection has been sorely lacking.

Garcia and Barcelona have a verbal agreement in place for him to enter as a free agent in the summer of 2021, according to Fabrizio Romano. The good news for Barcelona is that no other club has reached an agreement with Manchester City, leaving them free to sign him.

However, Barcelona’s finances are in shambles, and they are unable to bring in new players due to a lack of funds. They owe €1.1 billion in debt, which makes a lot of players, no matter how cheap, inaccessible for Barca.

According to Fabrizio Romano, this debt will not prevent Eric Garcia from signing with the Blaugranas, but we will have to wait and see if the Blaugranas can secure one of the most talented center-backs on a long-term basis.

Pep Guardiola has been asked a lot about Garcia’s future, but he refuses to comment because, as he said in his last press conference, “he is still our player.”

Garcia is a great match for Pep’s style of play, and it’s hard to believe he’ll let him go for nothing, even though Garcia hasn’t played much since Ruben Dias and John Stones have had such a fantastic season.

If the deal goes through, it would be a blow to City’s scope. Dias and Stones are doing admirably, but they do need rest from time to time, and injuries are a common occurrence at the Etihad in the final months of the season.

City is notorious for their injured center-backs, so maybe it’s time for Guardiola to start searching for a new center-back to add to the club’s depth.
