“What a climax. It feels fantastic. It’s been a grueling race, to say the least,” Coquelin said BT Sport.

After extra time, the game ended 1-1, with Man United striker Edinson Cavani canceling out Gerard Moreno’s first-half goal.

Villarreal finished eighth in LaLiga, but their win against United qualifies them for the first Europa Conference League, which will be held next season.

Villarreal finished sixth in LaLiga, but with the win over United, they will advance to the Champions League group stage for next season’s first Europa Conference League.

“We didn’t make it to the Champions League through the league, so to win our first title is incredible,” added Coquelin, a former Arsenal midfielder.

“Beating them in the final was a huge accomplishment. Despite Covid, we’ll attempt to rejoice since it’s a significant occasion for the club.”

Villarreal’s only prior trophies were a third-place finish in the Spanish league in 1970 and two Intertoto Cups in 2003 and 2004.

“We played a fantastic encounter against one of the top teams in the world,” Alfonso Pedraz, the left-back, said.

“We played a fantastic performance against one of the top teams in the world. Alfonso Pedraza, the left-back, told RMC Sport.

“We had to suffer, we didn’t have many opportunities, and then it was a penalty lottery. This championship is certainly dedicated to all of our fans who are present and who have assisted us. This season has been a major undertaking. We already knew we’d be in the Champions League if we won, so it’s a double bonus! Anything is conceivable. It’s a prize for the entire group, the fans.”

Unai Emery, the coach of Villarreal, won the UEFA Cup/Europa League for the fourth time in his career.

“We haven’t focused on penalties in training this season but the players have been fantastic. It’s incredible and lovely that everyone has received a score. Villarreal, the project’s president, is quite proud of it. Work is the key. Throughout the competition and in the final, the players displayed a strong mindset,” he remarked.
