EL: Victories for Ajax, Rangers, Villareal, Shakhtar and Molde

In the return leg of the Europa League play-offs, Ajax hosted Lille. In the 15th minute, Ajax took the lead with the help of Klaassen. However, Lille, who needed to attack, equalized in the 78th minute. Yazici scored that goal.

Towards the end of the game, David Neres scored to put Ajax ahead in the Europa League 1/8 finals.

The rematch between Glasgow Rangers and Royal Antwerp FC promised to be an interesting one. In the first match, the Scots won 4:3, and in the rematch, they started with a strong strike.

In the 9th minute, Alfredo Morelos scored into the net. In the 32nd minute, however, Lior Refaelov equalized. The real shooting started after the change of sides. Nathan Patterson gave the hosts the lead in the 46th minute, followed nine minutes later by Ryan Kent. 

In the 57th minute, Didier Lamkel Ze poured hope into the hearts of the visitors’ supporters. The joy was short-lived, however. In the 79th minute, Borna Barisić converted a penalty, and just before the end, Cedric Itten set the score at 5:2.

Glasgow Rangers – Royal Antwerp 5-2 (1-1)

In the next game, Villarreal played against Red Bull Salzburg. In the first match, the Spaniards won 2:0. In the 17th minute, the guests went into the lead after a goal by Mergim Berisha. In the 40th minute, however, an equalizing goal was scored. Its author was Gerard Moreno.

After the change of sides, we watched only one goal. In the 89th minute, Moreno scored on a penalty kick and the hosts won 2:1 and advanced to the next round of the competition.

Villareal CF – Red Bull Salzburg 2-1 (1-1)

Goals: Mergim Berisha (17), Gerard Moreno (40, 89) 

Yellow card: Valci, Mvepu, Daka, Costa, Adeyemi.

In another duel, Shakhtar Donetsk played against Maccabi Tel Aviv. In the first match, the Ukrainians won 2:0. Until the break in the return match, no goal was scored. That changed in the 67th minute. Then Junior Moraes used a penalty kick, and Shakhtar won 1:0 and advanced to the next phase.

Hoffenheim hosted Molde in the return leg of the Europa League 1/16 final. The visitors opened the scoring midway through the first half through Andersen’s efforts, gaining an important advantage that put them ahead. 

The German side was unable to reply and went on to drop out of the Europa League, conceding in injury time.
