Eddie Howe: Newcastle struggling to field team

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe revealed that they are very close to not being able to field a team for their Premier League meeting against Everton. Newcastle named just eight substitutes for their 1-1 draw against Manchester United along with two goalkeepers. Javier Manquillo picked up his fifth yellow card while Allan Saint-Maximin and Callum Wilson picked up injuries.

“The lads gave everything but we are thin on the ground in terms of bodies,” Newcastle manager Eddie Howe said. “These are difficult moments for us. I believe it’s 13 plus a goalkeeper [players required for a game to proceed]. We’re going to be dangerously close to that number. Callum’s injury doesn’t look good. Just the way he went down with no one around him. Allan, I don’t think is as serious. I don’t know. We’ll see what the situation is with the players that we have.”

“When we get on the front foot and press teams, we know we can make it tough for anyone.” Sean Longstaff said. “Our next run of games, we’re not playing Liverpool, Manchester City Manchester United, three of the best teams. We’ve got to use this as a chance to pick up points and hopefully start looking up. Every game is massive that you play for Newcastle United. Every time you pull the top on, it’s a massive, massive privilege. Everyone in the dressing room knows that the staff knows that and we’ll put the work in over the next couple of days to be ready for it [Everton].”
