Dries Mertens to stay in Napoli until 2022

In spite of enthusiasm from Chelsea and Inter Milan, Dries Mertens is supposedly ready to sign another contract with Napoli.

The 33-year-old forward was relied upon to leave Serie A side at the finish of the season on a free transfer.

In any case, according to Sky Sport Italia, Mertens and his club are in ‘total agreement’ over another deal that will keep him at the club until 2022.

The Belgian is anticipated to earn €4million at the San Paolo in each of the following two seasons, as well as €2.5 m for the contract marking.

Mertens has 12 goals in 29 games this term and is only one away from being the all-time leading scorer for Napoli.

Since arriving in an £8 m move from PSV Eindhoven, Mertens has burned through seven seasons at Napoli and has played 309 matches, scoring 121 times – making him the most significant standard scorer of the club with Marek Hamsik.

Frank Lampard had been on the Belgian’s immediate pursuit to add some genuinely necessary experience and profundity to his summer forward line.

It had been proposed already that he would be enthusiastic about moving to Chelsea, who also wanted to sign the forward in January.

Mertens went through seven years at Napoli and scored 121 goals in 309 appearances. He and Marek Hamšik share the principal spot in the club’s history as the top scorers. The new deal will offer him a €4 million salary for each season, and a € 2.5 million reward to stretch out loyalty to the club, Italian media revealed.

This summer, Mertens’ contract lapsed and he was relied upon to leave Napoli, and he was keen on Chelsea, Inter and Roma.
