Hertha Berlin’s defender Dick van Burik revealed that Kevin-Prince Boateng could have reached the level of Lionel Messi. Boateng has joined Hertha Berlin this summer, 14 years since he left the club to join Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League. In his 14 years away from the club, Boateng has played for 13 other clubs. Boateng has played for Portsmouth, AC Milan, Borussia Dortmund, Eintracht Frankfurt, Besiktas, Fiorentina, and Barcelona in his long career. He has won the Serie A, DFB-Pokal and the La Liga.
“Even when Kevin came from the youth to the first team, his potential was immediately world-class,” Dick Van Burik said about teammate Kevin-Prince Boateng. “He can do things that you go to the stadium for. Even then he had the… attitude and simply showed what he can do.”
“As they say in Holland, the circle is round again,” he added. “He has become a great player but I actually expected that he would come even closer to the highest level of Messi. In his passing game, the overview, speed, technique, and goal danger, he had it all. That he is now returning to Hertha is a wonderful story.”
Kevin and his brother Jerome Boateng were both graduates of the Hertha Berlin academy. the latter went on to play for Germany and was an important part of the 2014 world cup winning Germany squad. he also went on to win nine Bundesliga titles along with two Champions Leagues.
“Kevin and Jerome Boateng are the greatest players that Hertha have ever trained and both were successful at top international clubs,” he added. “Hertha can be very proud of that. If Jerome came now, that would be the absolute Hertha hammer. If both of them finally kicked off where their world careers began, that would be Hertha’s fairy tale.”
