Amid rumors connecting him with a summer move to Real Madrid, Bayern Munich defender David Alaba is expected to have an update on his future.

Alaba, who turns 29 in June, has failed to negotiate with Bayern on a contract extension and will be a free agent in the summer, with Madrid close to agreeing with the Austrian on a four-year deal worth £ 400,000 a week.

Alaba will make an announcement about his future on Tuesday, according to the German outlet Bild, after months of speculation swirling around his next destination as he prepares to depart the Bundesliga champions at the end of the season.

The article further notes that amid Chelsea’s intense interest in recent weeks, the look of the West London outfit was likely to lose out on the signature of Alaba.

Chelsea was unable to split their existing pay structure to secure the defender, who had put off several suitors by seeking an astounding £ 20 million per year to be charged, according to reports last week.

It also emerged that although the prevailing left-back, who has shone for the past two seasons at center-back, would like to work at his next club as a defensive midfielder.

The news comes as a blow to Blues manager Thomas Tuchel, who was reportedly keen to bring the Bayern star to Stamford Bridge in a bid to make his side title-challengers next season as part of a squad overhaul.

It has been widely confirmed that Chelsea is prioritizing the capture of a top striker and a center-back in the summer, although they have been linked with a range of players in a variety of positions.

Fabrizio Romano, an Italian journalist, and transfer specialist reported that Madrid is on the verge of signing a four-year contract with Alaba. However, despite having signed a verbal deal with Galacticos’ boss Zinedine Zidane, the defender has yet to put pen to paper on those terms.
