David Alaba recently revealed that at the end of the season he will be leaving Bayern Munich on a free transfer. This news was no shock to Bayern fans who, after months of stalled contract talks and unrealistic demands, already almost knew the club legend would leave. And it seems that for whoever his new bosses are, Alaba would also have lofty demands.
According to Le Parisien (via Bild), Alaba has made it a condition for his next club to play in midfield. Besides, the French outlet also alleges that Alaba is battling for a mammoth EUR 25 million deal and that the clubs running for Alaba are said to be PSG and Real Madrid. Bild says Alaba prefers to move to Spain.
While Alaba is a great player, the demands for his contract seem quite unreasonable. No wonder Bayern wouldn’t match them and it would be shocking to see any other outfit, particularly in these financially dire corona-times, do so either. I just don’t see Real Madrid signing the player if these demands are valid, they are also theoretically letting go of club legend Sergio Ramos for equally outlandish demands at the end of this season. Only PSG could afford these kinds of salaries at this time.
As for Alaba’s midfield stipulation, considering that Alaba has not played much as a central midfielder in his club career, it seems extremely strange. During this campaign, Alaba only put out good, but not “world beater” performances when given the opportunity to further up the pitch.
