Cristiano Ronaldo hopes that their Supercoppa victory over Napoli can be used by Juventus as a springboard back into the Serie A race.
With the Portuguese star scoring the opening goal of the game in the 64th minute, Ronaldo and Juventus took down Napoli 2-0 on Wednesday.
Alvaro Morata, who produced a goal with the last kick of the game to seal the win for Juventus, joined him on the scoresheet.
Ronaldo’s fourth with Juventus is the trophy, having joined Real Madrid’s Serie A giants in 2018.
The club’s search for a Serie A crown this season, however, will be challenging, with Juve having won the title nine seasons running in a genuine race for the Scudetto.
Juve, as things stand, is fifth in Serie A, 10 points behind AC Milan’s league-leaders with one game in hand.
Inter, Napoli, and Roma are among the two historic giants, as the Serie A title battle is closer than it has been almost halfway through the domestic season in years.
Ronaldo said he hopes that lifting a trophy would be a morale booster after getting his hands on the Supercoppa on Wednesday as Juve looks forward to a challenging title chase.
Ronaldo told Rai Sport after the match, “We are very happy with the win, it was hard, especially since the pitch was awful, but we got it done.”
Despite the bad results against Inter, we showed a different attitude. This is the past, this is a very valuable trophy, and we hope this will give the team more confidence in the future.
Milan and Inter are really good,” he added, “but I believe we’ve got what it takes to win. It’s going to be very hard, but I think the Scudetto is still possible.
Ronaldo has now scored 21 this season with Wednesday’s goal, bringing his career tally to 760 for club and country.
Juventus will face off with Bologna on Sunday following the victory over Napoli as they look to gain ground on the clubs above them in the Serie A competition.
After that, the focus will be turned to Coppa Italia, where Ronaldo and co. will take on SPAL in a quarter-final game on January 27.
