The first leg of the last-16 Chelsea Champions League tie against Atletico Madrid will be played at the Arena Naţională Stadium in Bucharest.
At the Wanda Metropolitano later this month, Chelsea was due to play the Spanish team. Thomas Tuchel’s side is not permitted to enter the world, however, as a result of the coronavirus pandemic and travel restrictions being imposed.
This does not mean that Atletico had to find an alternate venue to stage the first leg of the last-16 tie in Europe, and it has now been reported that the Arena Naţională stadium will be located in Romania.
According to the official Chelsea website, “UEFA has confirmed that the Chelsea Champions League Round 16 first leg match against Atletico Madrid will be played in Bucharest, Romania, at the Arena National.”
The match date, Tuesday, February 23rd, and the kick-off (UK time at 8 pm) will remain the same.
“The second leg at Stamford Bridge is on Wednesday 17 March at 8 pm. ”
Chelsea’s official website writes that the location of the first leg of the 1/8 final between Atlético de Madrid and Chelsea has been updated.
The game will take place at the National Arena in Bucharest.
Previously, due to restrictions caused by the spread of the coronavirus in England, the Borussia Mönchengladbach vs Manchester City and RB Leipzig vs Liverpool matches were moved to Budapest.
The scheduled date for 23 February is Atletico vs Chelsea. On 17 March, the return leg is scheduled.
