Chelsea Transfer News | Mohamed Salah linked with a return to Chelsea. Do Chelsea really need him? Details Inside

Mohamed Salah was controversially sold by Chelsea to AS Roma five years ago after Jose Mourinho struggled to give him enough playing time at Stamford Bridge to improve. He’s since developed into a world-class player at Liverpool, scoring at least 19 Premier League goals in each of his four seasons on Merseyside; the Egyptian is widely regarded as one of the greatest in the game, but he’s been tied with a return to London. Salah’s contract at Anfield expires this summer, and the Reds are yet to give him a new one. As a result of the situation, ties with top European clubs are starting to surface.

Chelsea Transfer News | Do Blues Really Need Him?

Despite his exceptional level of success, it is fair to say that a bid for Liverpool’s talisman will be ill-advised from a Blues standpoint, mostly because they may not need his services, and resources would be better used elsewhere.

Christian Pulisic, Mason Mount, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Timo Werner, Kai Havertz, Hakim Ziyech, Olivier Giroud, and Tammy Abraham are among the attacking players at Thomas Tuchel’s disposal.

Salah’s style differs somewhat from that of some of those men, but Chelsea’s forwards occupy more of the ground; the Egyptian international is left-footed. But Ziyech is as well, and he’s quick around the ground, but Werner is faster than him.

Salah is already 28 years old. And it’s unclear if he’ll be able to continue putting up such good numbers in the years ahead. Even with the squad Tuchel already has.

He has 14 non-penalty goals in England’s top flight this season. It is at least six more than all of his teammates – showing that he isn’t slowing down any time soon. But with a price tag of over £100 million, Chelsea would be better off investing in a younger model instead.

Chelsea will enjoy the benefits of last summer’s transfer policy for many years to come. Well after Tuchel’s time in London, and the strategy of recruiting highly young players. Before they reach their peak runs counter to Salah’s purchase.
