Brendan Rodgers has hailed the impact that Ange Postecoglou has had on the Celtic team as they sit three points clear at the top of the table. Ahead of the Old Firm derby, Brendan Rodgers and Mikel Arteta who both have connections to the derby have given their take. Rodgers is a boyhood Celtic fan and has won seven trophies during his two and half years at the club. Arteta on the other hand spent his early playing days at the club and has lifted the Scottish Premiership title.
“Celtic have been brilliant. For me, Ange has done a fantastic job there. A lot of new players have come in along with the guys from my time there: Callum McGregor, James Forrest, Nir Biton,” Brendan Rodgers said about Ange Postecoglou. “They’ve played some terrific football, they’ve got themselves into a great position and whatever happens at the end of Sunday, they’ll still be top and in a really good position. But Ibrox is a great place to go and play with the atmosphere. To win there with Celtic is obviously special there, as a player or a manager, and they’ll go on and play with no fear and will go on to win the game.”
“It’s one of the best memories I have as a football player. It’s unique, incredible, fascinating, and electric. It’s a privilege to be on that pitch feeling that atmosphere,” Mikel Arteta said about the Old Firm derby. “It was a really special moment. I was probably a bit naïve to take on that responsibility at the last minute, but it was one of the biggest moments in my career and a really special one for the club as well. Winning that derby means everything for the fans of the city. You need to embrace it again. If you win it, it’s a great day.”
