With a 2-0 victory over relegation-threatened Hertha Berlin, Youssoufa Moukoko scored his third Bundesliga goal to lift Borussia Dortmund to fifth place in the Bundesliga table.

In a largely one-sided first half, Haaland had scored braces in his previous two competitive games, but it was Marco Reus who should have had a double of his own. The Dortmund captain clipped the top of Rune Jarstein’s goal frame with a diabolical free-kick not long after a rather presentable volley, high and short.

In the 22nd minute, Reus turned to Haaland, but the 20-year-attempted old’s header was off target. Hertha’s only chance came against the run of play when Maximillian Mittelstädt put a Deyovaisio Zeefuik free-kick that he had no idea about into the net. Jarstein was the only one to make a crucial save, denying English teenager Jude Bellingham’s stinging first-time effort.

Dortmund continued where they left off after the restart, taking the lead with 54 minutes remaining. In his half, Haaland won a header and found Julian Brandt, who continued to sprint. After receiving a pass from Reus about 30 yards out, the German international took control of the open space and unleashed a vicious swerving strike into the Hertha net, totally fooling Jarstein. At the hour, Jarstein has beaten again, but Mahmoud Dahoud’s deflected cross bounced off the crossbar.

Before Darida displayed a straight red card for a reckless challenge on Reus, Jarstein produced a fantastic reaction, save for denying Emre Can. Moukoko added to Hertha’s misery in injury time, finishing past Jarstein at his near-post, leaving the Old Lady alone above the relegation play-off spot on goal difference after setting up Gio Reyna for a shot against the post.
