COVID-19 PANDEMIC

The COVID-19 epidemic among Italian national team players and workers is spreading. The situation is the same for Juventus players, who have recently featured for the Azzurri during the international break.

It started with Leonardo Bonucci. Federico Bernardeschi, the newest Italian at Juventus to test positive for COVID-19. Federico tested positive five days later, the club confirmed on late Tuesday morning.

Since returning from international duty last week, the 27-year-old becomes the third Bianconeri player to test positive, following center-backs Leonardo Bonucci and Merih Demiral. Both the players were moved out of Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Torino.

Juventus announced on their official club webpage that Bernardeschi had a positive swab and was asymptomatic and that the former Fiorentina winger would be isolated for some time.

BERNARDESCHI JOINS THE COVID GANG

Bernardeschi, who has played as a full-back for coach Andrea Pirlo this season, joins a rising number of Italian internationals, as well as four Azzurri staff members, who have contracted the virus in the last week.

Alessandro Florenzi, Marco Verratti, Salvatore Sirigu, Alessio Cragno, and Vincenzo Grifo have all tested positive, in addition to Bonucci.

After the international break, Bernardeschi played for Italy in victories over Bulgaria and Lithuania. But, he did not take part in the 2022 World Cup Qualifying opener against Northern Ireland.

BERNARDESCHI TO MISS NAPOLI CLASH

According to the club’s official website, Juventus midfielder will miss the rescheduled Serie A 3rd round match against Napoli.

The midfielder has no signs of illness and is quarantined.

Previously, Bianconeri defenders Leonardo Bonucci and Merih Demiral contracted coronavirus after skipping last week’s 2-2 draw with Torino.

Juventus will face Napoli On Wednesday, April 7.
