According to El Mundo Deportivo, the midfielder left the Blaugrana for the Parisians on a free transfer in October 2020, but the contract contained €3 million in factors, part of which will now be paid as the French side advances to the Champions League semi-finals.
The payout will be repeated if PSG advances to the last four of Europe’s premier club competitions next season, according to the study.
Rafinha, the brother of Liverpool midfielder and Spain international Thiago, left the Blaugrana permanently when the club worked to reduce its wage bill for the next season.
The 28-year-old has made 30 appearances for PSG this season. He is yet to score a goal. Having previously spent time on loan at Celta Vigo and Inter in Italy.
The Agreement Clause
Barcelona would earn €1.5 million for Rafinha Alcantara, who helped PSG reach the Champions League Semi-Finals, according to Mundo Deportivo. This was one of the clauses in the agreement between the two clubs. However, there was no fee at the outset.
Many people were stunned by the Brazilian’s departure. After Barcelona turned down a nearly €10 million bid from Celta for his services. The transaction gained traction in the final hours of the timeframe. The fact that Rafinha’s contract had just one year remaining played a significant part in the deal’s completion.
In the second leg of the UCL Semi-Finals, the Parisians will meet Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City. Rafinha is one of the players who are familiar with Pep because of his outstanding relationship with his brother Thiago.
Rafinha also credits Pep with shaping Thiago into the player he is today.
