Barcelona presidential candidate Victor Font has stated that he would like to focus on youth development instead of promising a big-name signature.
Barcelona is linked to possible offers for high-profile players to settle on a replacement for Josep Maria Bartomeu ahead of the upcoming elections. The font has, however, announced that he intends to move away from this venture, saying that Neymar will not return from Paris Saint-Germain due to the financial package that would be involved.
Font said, speaking to Goal: “It’s campaign time, so it’s normal to hear about popular names, but supporters are smart and know that it’s not about promising an amazing name for the first time in history, as happened with [David] Beckham in 2003.”
Now we have to create attention from other points of view, there is a new generation that needs accountability and the right conditions to make decisions.
“I love him [Neymar] as a player, I enjoy him because is a pure talent but we must be realistic. From now on the club will have strong leadership. Also, the club is how it is in a financial aspect and he probably wants a competitive salary. We can’t pay for this.”
