Riqui Puig’s future lies in Barcelona, that much is certain. Not only that but according to Mundo Deportivo’s latest article, the agreement to extend its contract until 2023 has already been signed, though without official notice to date.
This comes as a surprise due to the current situation of the 21-year-old talent in Ronald Koeman’s team. Puig can become a world-class player, but the new coach doesn’t seem to like what he’s seen so far for one reason or the other.
For that reason, during the 2020/21 campaign, Riqui has often cast aside and relegated to the bench or even the stands. It does seem, however, that the club sees him as a legitimate choice for the future, hence the renovation.
Mundo Deportivo believes that many clubs were interested in the youngster, but despite the numerous reports that persist among the media outlets, Barcelona will never sell him.
By extending his deal, the Catalans are also making sure that they won’t lose him on a free transfer if he leaves somewhere further down the road.
For now, though, we should all be glad he’s staying at Camp Nou for the time being.
