Aston Villa’s European aspirations were dealt another blow when Wolves held them to a goalless draw in their West Midlands derby.

The hosts, who were defeated by Sheffield United in midweek, dominated the first half, with goals from Ollie Watkins and Ezri Konsa.

After the break, Villa faded as Wolves came alive, with the strong Jack Grealish missing once more as he recovers from injury.

The tourists, on the other hand, squandered several golden opportunities, with Romain Saiss blazing a close-range attempt over the bar after Conor Coady had headed against a post.

And Coady’s close-range effort drew a superb save from Villa goalkeeper David Villa.

Coady’s second close-range effort drew a magnificent save from Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez, ensuring a share of the spoils.
