Antonio Conte declares he’s been ‘working on the role of playmaker with Christian Eriksen and expects great things from him’ with Fiorentina at the Coppa Italia.

At 14.00 GMT on Wednesday, the Round of 16 tie kicks off.

“It’s for a trophy, so it’s a contest that matters to everyone, of course,” Conte told RAI Sport.

We’re facing Fiorentina now, who’s going to have the same thoughts as us at this competition, because they’re a really strong side who’s not performing at their actual level in Serie A so far.

“This is a tough hurdle if we want to continue our Coppa journey.”

In January, Eriksen was on the transfer market, but it seems that the situation has changed, given the lack of decent offers.

Instead, in a new position for his 3-5-2 formation, Conte is attempting to revitalize the Danish midfielder.

There are going to be positive and less good times in a player’s career, but you must have the character to break free of the difficulties.

We had time to work with Eriksen in the role of a playmaker on a tactical basis, the one currently held by Marcelo Brozovic.

“In that position, I expect great stuff from him.”
